From the Big Band era we have
the music of Haitian clarinetist Issa El Saieh. This CD is a remastering
of an original recording made at Radio Progreso in Havana in 1958.
This is a really great collection of traditional Haitian music merged with
a Cuban panache.
At $15.00 it's a bargain.

On the contemporary side we have
RAM,

...lead by Richard Morse who
also happens to own the historic Hotel Oloffson in Port-au-Prince. This
Princeton educated musician returned to Haiti years ago to reconnect to
his roots and focus on his musical talents
The result is a hypnotic sound that incorporates traditional Haitian chants
with a contemporary flavor.

....I
first heard RAM play in 1991
while visiting the Hotel Oloffson,
where artists such as
David Byrne and Mick Jagger have
been known to jam at the lounge.

RAM was one of the
major attractions at last years
Sunfest97 in West Palm Beach,
featuring music from their latest CD,
Puritan Vodou.

If you get a chance go see them live,
if not buy one of the CDs,
....your ears will love you and
your feet won't stop dancing.
We carry Aibobo and Puritan Vodou and
they are $15.00 each.
