1934 - 2014 Unique and charming subject. Rooster crows a wake-up call, Normil captures the moment perfectly in this vintage work. Colors are still rich and vibrant in this pre 1970s painting depicting a thatched dance hall in the early morning hours. Andre Normil was an acknowledged Haitian art Master. He joined the Centre dArt in 1951. His observant eye captured subtleties of Haitian culture and his paintings were often populated with likenesses of friends. Normil was married to the Haitian painter Francoise Eliassaint, herself a highly accomplished artist who in 1982 became a member of the Saint Soleil group. For decades, Normil worked in a room on the ground floor of the Galerie Issa.
