Ox at Villiage Stream 1980s

Artist:  St. Louis Blaise       More by this artist

Medium:  Acrylic on Canvas

Description:
Tranquil scene of everyday activities in a remote mountain village. Plump local folk fetch water, wash clothes and care for their animals. Excellent example of Blaises early work. St.-Louis Blaise was born in Cap Haitan in 1956. He is deservedly one of the most famous of Haitian artists; his paintings are coveted by collectors. Blaise style is realistic; the design element is precise. Each of his paintings contains enormous detail and is the fruit of patient effort and minute observation. He draws inspiration from Haitian history, particularly the Revolution, the Empire, and the Kingdom of Henri Christophe. His paintings are in the permanent collections of many museums, and have been widely exhibited in galleries. His work has been particularly popular in France. His portraits of large people are priced $10000.00 and above many have compared his work to that of Fernando Botero, however, St Louis had a true love of big beautiful women. He was not experimenting with volume as is said of Botero. Sadly, Blaise passed away at the young age of 38 of a rare blood disorder.
