Raymond Dorleans (1947-2000) So much beauty in this early work by Dorleans. A shallow teal bay is the push off port for local fishermen. One lone villager might have missed the boat. Well-known Haitian painter Raymond Dorleans was born in Haiti in 1947 and died in Martinique in 2000. His first art exhibit was in 1973, and dark blue-green landscapes with bright figures characterize his paintings. His art is represented in many private art collections worldwide, cited in many Haitian art books, sold at Sothebys.and shown at Musee des Beaux-Arts dOrleans in France. "A landscape artist, Dorleans is a master of airy perspectives," says Gerald Alexis in his book Peintres Haitiens.
