This painting is dated 1974 and was originally from the Issa Gallery in Port-au-Prince. The subject is beyond charming depicting a short trip from village to village along Haitis coast. The sailboat and passengers are painted with loving detail, passengers are wearing their best clothes as the captain casually eats his lunch. Fish jump in the waves around the boat and even an elusive sailfish makes an appearance. Jerome Polycarpe born in Port-au-Prince Haiti November 6th,1950. He studied with the master painter Rigaud Benoit. His vivid paintings portray a variety of animals living in the jungle of multi-colored fauna. Before taking up painting, Jerome was a professor of Mathematics from 1971 to 1973. Jean Marie Drot and French cultural icon, Andre Malraux, selected his first two paintings for two exhibitions in Paris and Auxerre. Jerome is particularly renowned for his vibrantly colored jungle scenes. His paintings were auctioned at Parke Bernet in New York in 1975, and are sold in galleries throughout Paris, Germany, America, Italy, Jamaica and the Antilles.
